Arden House Medical Practice

Patient Participation Group (PPG) Meeting

2pm 30th April 2013 at Sett Close

Keith Brisley, Sally Culmer, Beryl Ellison, Jacqui Gadd, Rob Hanlon, & Sheila Watson

1.             Apologies:

Thanks were offered to Tania Kennedy who has resigned from the group.  Tania had been a chairman of the group since its formation and we were sorry to see her leave.

Sheila introduced herself and was welcomed to the group.

Rob was appointed as chairman and took over the meeting.

Jacqui was appointed as secretary

Keith was appointed a treasurer

3          A way forward (Sally)

This year’s patient survey is underway

PPG expected to establish and express the needs of the patients ie:

  • The services being delivered
  • Are they the right services
  • Have patients needs changed
  • Can the surgery adapt to those needs

Are patients aware of the PPG and its remit and how can we promote this group if the patients feel uncomfortable about approaching staff with any issues?

Suggestion to have a PPG box on reception

Sally asked if we could/would set the survey for next year and collate and present the findings

The last survey fed back some useful information such as the perceived lack of privacy at Sett Close – this was resolved by having music playing (after a consultation re the most acceptable type of ‘noise’).

4          Ambulance Service (Keith)

Keith reported that following the proposed changes and the rumours that were around the Ambulance service will still be based in New Mills at the Fire Station.

5              Membership of the Group

We now have one new member of the group, Sheila.

Sally is to try to contact previous patients who joined the group for occasional meetings

Sally pointed out that we did not have a true cross section of the patients

Suggestions to ‘advertise’ on the notice board, facebook and the blog page.

Jacqui to contact the business college to see if any young people that are registered at Arden House could join us at a meeting.

6          Update from the meeting at Buxton (Rob)

Rob advised that it was an event that didn’t meet his expectations; he felt that names and titles had changed but that things seemed to be carrying on the same way in a different guise.  Jacqui said she felt that we were being ‘consulted’ by being told what to think and that decisions had already been made.
