Men’s Mental Health Week

Dear Patients,

Last month marked Men’s mental health week, aimed to raise awareness about the health challenges faced by men and to provide them access to the information and services that could make a difference.

As many as 1 in every 8 men in England have a common mental health problem. Three quarters of people who take their own life in England and Wales are men. In 2021, 4,129 men took their own lives. That’s 11 men every day. It’s so important to know where to go for support if you are finding things hard. Too many men (and women) keep their difficulties to themselves and hope that they will get better. Please know that if you are struggling, you are not alone. Help is available and you do not need to go through this by yourself. If you are experiencing low mood, increased stress, having difficulty sleeping or are feeling anxious or on edge, Mentell – Men, is it time to talk? offer support.

The NHS Talking Therapies service is also free to access for adults (age 18+) Support is varied and can be accessed in a number of ways. You don’t need to go through a GP to access support, you can refer yourself by completing the online self-referral form for Mentell – Member Sign Up or access Talking therapy.

Other help is available:

Things we need to normalize for men: mental health issue, showing emotions, speaking up, going to therapy, not being "ok", asking for help. #menshealthmonth
